The Front Room
The front room of the Fillebrown House, originally designed as a “ladies’ parlor,” was used by Jonas and Hallie during their time here.
It offers a rare lake view and features Renaissance Revival furnishings (1850-1880). The bedroom suite, which came from Kentucky with Hallie, was originally in their St. Paul home.
After Jonas and Hallie’s deaths, Helen’s cousin William Garvin and his wife stayed in the room on and off until 1950. The room contains mementos of the Fillebrowns, including a quilt made from Hallie’s friend’s ties, a photo of Hallie in her wedding dress on her 50th wedding anniversary, and a washing bowl and pitcher with a possibly apocryphal Prohibition-era story.
