The Studio

Dating back to the 1920s, the area above the kitchen – known as the Pollywog – was originally a sleeping loft in the guesthouse that was at the back of the Fillebrown property.

The stairs to this room were relocated in the 1940s when the front porch was enclosed and winterized.

The Studio has served multiple purposes, including as a space for Helen’s piano lessons, her bedroom, a guest room, and a sitting room for Arthur. It was the warmest room in the house, making it a popular spot for winter evenings.

Now WBLAHS uses this area to display some of our unique treasures such as:

  • CP Davies’ curio: a well-known builder of homes on Manitou Island and in Dellwood, he also had a hand in the upkeep of the Fillebrown House. He created this curio filled with a collection of hardware and tools from the early 1900s.
  • White Bear Lake High School Letterman’s jacket from 1905
  • A dressmaker’s form from 1895 and a Singer Sewing Machine from 1887.
  • Desks from Washington School (1879 – 1979)
